Redhawks Cross Country Will Contest in Saluki Invitational

Sept. 20, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State cross country will take part in the Saluki Invitational on Saturday, September 22. The event will be held at the SIU Cross Country Course in Carbondale, Ill. The women's 5K will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the men's 8K at 10:45.

The Redhawks will be faced with a three week stint and are anxious to see about their performances.

Teams competing with the host Saluki's and the Redhawks include Eastern Illinois University, Illinois State University, University of Evansville, McKendree, Missouri Baptist and Southern Illinois - Edwardsville.

Last weekend, the Southeast women's team had an impressive meet at Eastern Illinois. They edged off Southern Illinois - Carbondale by three points to win the team title. Junior Juli Koenegstein led the team with a first place finish in a time of 17:51. Following Koenegstein were freshmen Brandi Gervais (5th - 18:24.57) and Monica Noble (11th -18:47.48). All three women have been running exceptionally well and will make a tremendous impact in Saturday's competition.

Sophomore Linnea Woldtvedt did not compete in last weekend's competition but will be in action on Saturday.

The Southeast men also competed at Eastern Illinois, but were short on several runners. Freshman Brandon Funderburk was the top runner for the men's team. He placed 9th with a time of 25:46.97. He was followed by teammates Jason Lumpkin (22nd - 26:36.72) and Chris Loseman (14th - 26:40.12).

The men's team looks to have improved performances due to the return of several top runners. In addition, sophomore Dustin Davis and junior Danny Stults will be making their first showing of the season.
